BOOK SYNOPSIS

Gunnar is one fight away from cruiserweight champion, and one flight of stairs away from true love.
When Gunnar left his ex, the current cruiserweight champion, two years earlier and moved back to his hometown, he knew he was passing up his chance to win the world. The last thing he wants is to meet his ex in the ring while the world dubs it a grudge match. For the most part, he’s content with traveling. Being known as the casino champ isn’t a bad gig. He doesn’t realize he’s missing anything. That is, until Gunnar comes to a stranger’s rescue in the rain.
Liam isn’t a stranger at all. Not only has he been living upstairs from Gunnar for the past two years, they went to high school together. Since Liam’s changed a lot in the past few years, he doesn’t hold it against Gunnar for not recognizing him.

Gunnar scratched his number out on a scrap of paper sitting on his end table. “Here. You’ll need this.”
Liam took it, but not without question. “I will?”
Gunnar smirked. “Yeah. You definitely will.” No one in their right mind could miss the sexual promise dripping from Gunnar’s every word.
Stuffing the paper in the front pocket of his jeans, Liam flashed an innocent smile. “You’re right. I’m always doing stupid shit like I did yesterday. It might not be a bad idea to have someone close by I can count on. I’d hate for Kaz to have to drive all the way in from Miami just to bring my keys again. Luckily, he was halfway between there and here yesterday, shopping.” He moved back toward the door. Gunnar watched it happen. His confusion made him slow to react. Liam baffled the hell out of Gunnar.
He chose a more direct approach since hinting obviously wasn’t working. “Of course, I’m here if you need a dry place again, but I’m even better at giving a wet place. I’d love for you to use my number for other reasons as well. Preferably for naughty pics. Yeah, I wouldn’t turn those down.”
“Oh,” Liam said, smiling. “I love those memes people post on Facebook. I’ll see if I can find something good for you.”
This was ridiculous. He had to know if Liam was fucking with him or genuinely uninterested. Gunnar didn’t think he was conceited or anything. Maybe he was. A little. Fuck, he worked hard on his body and tried to always be confident. People liked confident men, right? Something seemed wrong about Liam’s reaction to Gunnar’s every attempt at flirting with him. He focused on the vent in the ceiling above Liam’s head.
“Damn. What’s up with that vent? I keep opening it, and it keeps closing itself somehow.” Without giving Liam time to answer or figure out what he was talking about, Gunnar crowded Liam’s space, reaching above the other man’s head. He didn’t stop until barely an inch separated them, leaving Liam nowhere to go. Attempting to make his story look good, Gunnar toyed with the vent, opening it all the way and thanking God for the low ceilings in his apartment. He’d have to fix the vent later or it would be hotter than hell in his bedroom, but it was worth it if he could force Liam’s hand.
Without moving away, Gunnar glanced down. Liam was craning his neck in an obvious attempt at inspecting the problem. His expression hadn’t changed in the least. But goddamn, his blue eyes were even more amazing up close. They were an odd shade of smoky blue.
“Something probably needs to be tightened.” Liam’s hands came to rest on Gunnar’s sides, as if the man had braced himself to see around Gunnar’s large frame and get at the problem. Nothing separated them. It was skin-on-skin, and Gunnar went hard at the sensation. He couldn’t stop staring at Liam’s face. Liam finally focused on Gunnar. The corners of his mouth lifted in a sweet smile before falling. Liam shrugged.
“Really. I’m just talking out of my ass. I know nothing about heat and air ventilation.”
Gunnar tried clinging to a brain cell. It didn’t happen. The words fell from his lips without his permission.
“Wow. You really are clueless, aren’t you?”
Liam opened his mouth. Gunnar could see him gearing up to argue. Without giving Liam a chance, Gunnar lowered his head and covered Liam’s mouth with his. He’d meant to make a point. That was all. In all honesty, he expected Liam to shove him away or knee him in the balls. Instead, Liam’s tongue touched his. Gunnar’s mind went blank. He moved an inch closer, intent on deepening their kiss. Liam snagged the back of Gunnar’s hair, beating him to the punch. Gunnar’s bottom lip stung as Liam’s teeth sank into it. He wanted the moment to last forever. The instant that thought hit, Gunnar pulled away. He already knew what his life lacked. The last thing Gunnar needed was another fantasy he couldn’t keep.
Liam didn’t miss a beat. “As much as I want to tell you how it isn’t nice to call someone clueless, I’m too curious to know why you’d say that.”
The confusion written on Liam’s face made Gunnar want to growl. Even now, after that hot-as-hell kiss, Liam didn’t seem to realize how he affected Gunnar. Gunnar pried Liam’s fingers from his hair before dragging Liam’s hand down his body, until Liam’s fingers shaped Gunnar’s erection.
“Because you do this to me, and you don’t even know it.”

EXCERPT

The liquor had been flowing freely all night long. Troy and Noah made sure they drank their fill before stumbling back to their hotel room. Noah had always sworn that if he landed a pro contract, they’d spend the weekend partying in Vegas. Staying true to his word, four hours after signing with the New Orleans Blue Fires, he’d booked two roundtrip tickets for Troy and himself.
For two days now, they’d done everything two single men in their early twenties were expected to do in a place that promised to keep their secrets. Tomorrow, they’d head back to Phoenix. The day after that, Noah would board a seven a.m. flight to New Orleans—his new home. It had been a bittersweet weekend.
A wave of sadness washed over Noah as he fell across the hotel bed next to Troy. They’d been best friends for as far back as Noah could remember. For the first time in his life, he would start a new adventure without Troy by his side.
“I can’t believe, even after learning you’re a famous hockey player, none of those bitches wanted to leave with us.”
Noah snorted at Troy’s claim. “If you have to explain to people that I’m famous, they’re not likely to believe you.”
He felt more than saw Troy shrug.
“Still. It would’ve been nice if at least one would’ve taken the bait.”
A bark of laughter escaped Noah. “What’s the matter, dude? Are you working on a set of blue balls after all the strippers?” As if they’d planned it, they both turned their heads at the same time. Troy’s bottle green eyes shined with mirth.
Noah’s mouth went dry at the sight. He tried chalking it up to the alcohol. After all, the liquid warming his skin already had the room spinning and kept loosening his tongue. “You can jerk one out if you’d like. No judgments here. Hell, I might join you.”
Troy’s mouth turned up in one corner into a mocking smile, but his eyes told a different story. While holding Noah’s gaze, Troy slid his zipper down. It sounded unnaturally loud in the otherwise silent room. Noah’s heart rate kicked up. Blood pounded in his ears. It took everything he possessed not to drop his gaze and check out the goods. If Vegas really was the town of secrets, then they were in the right place. Troy was Noah’s deepest, darkest secret, and biggest fantasy.

EXCERPT

“Henley Theriot was arrested for assault last night outside Darker Set. We contacted the nightclub, best known for catering to people living alternative lifestyles, and the owner refused to comment as to whether the onetime Stanley Cup hopeful had been inside the club before the fight leading to his arrest. Several witnesses claim Theriot was visibly intoxicated.”
Letting loose a loud curse, Henley tossed the TV remote across the room. His meeting with league officials ended an hour earlier. They’d wasted no time calling him to carpet after his arrest and suspending him for the next four games. He didn’t need to keep listening to the blonde newscaster to hear that bit of gossip coming up next. Things were just getting started. Of course, Henley was the only person who knew that part. The league had also ordered he undergo a full drug screening. One he’d been escorted directly to from the meeting. He wouldn’t pass. His career was over.
Now, with half a bottle of prescription pills down, his life probably would be soon, as well. Not that he cared any longer. With that thought still fresh on his brain, Henley tossed back two more of the white tablets, hoping for some relief. There could be no doubt he was losing everything. Henley didn’t particularly care to remember it tomorrow. A knock landed on his door. The sound bounced off the walls of Henley’s brain, making his eyeballs ache from the vibration. Of course, it also could’ve been the chattering of his teeth. When had that started? The room spun, and the banging increased.
Closing his eyes, Henley swiped his hand over them as the world titled on its axis. When he opened his eyes again, he was on his knees. Funny, he hadn’t felt the fall. He tried pushing himself back to his feet, but his body refused to obey. That was fine. Going down onto the soft, welcoming carpet of his bedroom’s floor, Henley curled into a ball. Maybe he’d take a nap—forget everything for a little while. No matter how hard he tried, Henley couldn’t focus on anything. His eyes fell closed, shutting out the spinning blur. Whoever was banging on his door wasn’t giving up. They could go fuck themselves. He was done with making nice for the day.
Everything went black before color and light came rushing back to his senses then falling into inky darkness again. Henley caught short glimpses of Alex hovering over him with panic in his eyes. A small part of his brain wondered over the man’s presence, but Henley couldn’t cling to the question or reality. Hell. He wasn’t even sure if Alex was really there. All Henley wanted was to sleep—peace.
“Oh, hell, no. Don’t you go to sleep, Hen. You’ll fucking die if you sleep, man.”
Henley tried to snort at the claim, but nothing happened. What did he care? Bring on death. He hadn’t really been alive in a long time. Only the mild curiosity over Alex’s presence kept Henley from giving in. Alex kept talking, saying things Henley couldn’t understand. The sound of his voice got farther away. Henley sighed in relief. Now he could sleep.
