Interview:
1. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
Honestly, I can’t remember. I never thought I would have a published novel. Writing was just something I did here and there. Never did I once think that people would actually want to read it. It wasn’t until I noticed people enjoying my writing that I loved the concept of surprising people and giving them something to think about.
2. How long does it take you to write a book?
My first published work took me six months to write. But as of lately with two rowdy boys it’s been getting longer and longer. Sometimes it takes me a week or longer just to write one chapter.
3. What is your work schedule like when you're writing?
It is the most sporadic schedule ever. I take every chance I get. I want to or plan to write everyday, but it doesn’t always work out that way. Usually, it’s in the evening
4. What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
When no one is looking I read my work out loud…sometimes my husband catches me. I then come up with some sappy excuse, ‘What? It get the creative juices flowing.” Pretending to be in the characters shoes helps me figure out what is next to come in the book.
5. Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?
Some of my books that I wrote come from dreams that I can’t seem to shake after waking up. Others are just the need to write a certain type story and brainstorming an idea.
6. When did you write your first book and how old were you?
The first ‘book’ that I wrote, which is still a very rough unedited draft was when I was sixteen…seventeen. So in other words years ago.
7. What do you like to do when you're not writing?
Crafting…or trying to craft. My ambitions are much greater than my patience. Or reading my ever growing TBR list.
8. What does your family think of your writing?
Besides my husband, my family hasn’t read my any of work. And I’m okay with that.
9. What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
That I could actually come up with some interesting stuff. More than not I’m overwhelmed at how they story turns out.
10. How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?
I have one published novel and at least four unedited rough drafts. There is no way I can choose a favorite. Each holds a place in heart.
11. Do you have any suggestions to help me become a better writer? If so, what are they?
I get asked this question a lot and I have no idea. The most important would be write for yourself not for readers. Think your plot line though and just let the words come to you.
12. Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?
I do hear from my readers mainly through my Wattpad account. Most of the time they are extremely nice and demand MORE.
13. Do you like to create books for adults?
I would say my novels can be young adults to adults.
14. What do you think makes a good story?
Suspense. The twists and turns of what happens to the characters. I always love to try to think of different paths that I can take the story. It’s a bonus if it’s not the path that the reader expects. You have to be sitting on the edge of your seat, silently screaming for your eyes to read faster.
15. As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?
Not a writer. I wanted to be a veterinarian because I love animals.
